Big Ten Preseason Hockey Honors Announced

Lambert Trophy Watch List

The Lambert Trophy is awarded annually to the most valuable player in NCAA Division I men's ice hockey as voted by the coaches of the 60 Division I conference teams. This year's watch list includes 30 players, including four from the Big Ten.

Michigan leads the way with two players on the watch list: senior forward Matty Beniers and junior defenseman Owen Power. Beniers is the reigning Big Ten Player of the Year and a top candidate for the Hobey Baker Award. Power is a two-time All-American and one of the top defensemen in the country.

Minnesota also has two players on the watch list: junior forward Ben Meyers and senior defenseman Brock Faber. Meyers is a two-time All-Big Ten selection and one of the most dangerous offensive players in the country. Faber is a two-time All-American and one of the top defensemen in the country.

Ohio State rounds out the Big Ten's representation on the watch list with junior forward Cole Caufield. Caufield is a two-time All-American and one of the most dynamic offensive players in the country.

All-Big Ten Preseason Team

The All-Big Ten Preseason Team is selected by the coaches of the Big Ten schools. This year's team includes 12 players, including five from Michigan and three from Minnesota.

Michigan's five selections are Beniers, Power, senior forward Brendan Brisson, senior defenseman Nick Blankenburg, and junior goalie Erik Portillo. Minnesota's three selections are Meyers, Faber, and junior forward Matthew Knies.

Ohio State has two players on the preseason team: Caufield and senior defenseman Jake Wise. Penn State has one player on the team: senior forward Connor MacEachern.

Big Ten Preseason Coaches Poll

The Big Ten Preseason Coaches Poll is voted on by the coaches of the Big Ten schools. This year's poll has Michigan as the favorite to win the Big Ten regular season title, followed by Minnesota, Ohio State, Penn State, and Wisconsin.

Michigan received seven first-place votes in the poll, while Minnesota received two first-place votes. Ohio State received one first-place vote.
