WEB PSM Makassar resurrected their hopes of advancing to the next phase of the AFC Cup 202324 with a comprehensive 3-1 victory over Hougang United on Wednesday night. The result leaves PSM Makassar in second place in Group H with six points from three matches, three points behind leaders Kedah Darul Aman FC.
PSM Makassar took the lead in the 12th minute through a stunning free-kick from Wiljan Pluim. The Dutch midfielder curled the ball over the Hougang United wall and into the top corner of the net.
Hougang United levelled the scores in the 28th minute through a penalty converted by Pedro Henrique. The Brazilian striker was brought down in the area by PSM Makassar defender Agung Mannan and made no mistake from the spot.
PSM Makassar regained the lead in the 40th minute through a goal from Ricky Pratama. The Indonesian winger received a pass from Yakob Sayuri and fired a low shot into the bottom corner of the net.
PSM Makassar sealed the victory in the 80th minute through a goal from substitute M. Arfan. The Indonesian forward tapped in from close range after a cross from Pluim.
The win was PSM Makassar's first in the AFC Cup this season and it keeps their hopes of advancing to the next phase alive. They will now face Kedah Darul Aman FC in their next match on April 12.
