Flight SQ368 Encountered Severe Turbulence Over the Indian Ocean

At Least One Person Died and 30 Were Injured

A Singapore Airlines flight from London to Singapore hit severe turbulence over the Indian Ocean on Tuesday, May 21, 2024, injuring at least 30 passengers. One passenger, a 73-year-old British man, later died from his injuries.

The flight, SQ368, was carrying 234 passengers and 12 crew members. It was about six hours into its journey when it encountered the turbulence. The plane was flying at about 35,000 feet at the time.

The turbulence lasted for about 10 minutes. During that time, the plane dropped suddenly, causing passengers to be thrown from their seats. Oxygen masks dropped from the ceiling, and the cabin filled with dust and debris.

After the turbulence subsided, the plane landed safely at Singapore Changi Airport. The injured passengers were taken to local hospitals for treatment.

The cause of the turbulence is still under investigation. However, it is believed that it may have been caused by a thunderstorm.

Singapore Airlines has issued a statement expressing its condolences to the family of the deceased passenger and wishing the injured passengers a speedy recovery.

The incident is a reminder of the dangers of air travel. Even on a routine flight, there is always the potential for unexpected events.
